Competition was stiff tonight for the 2012 CMT Music Awards for the CMT Performance of the Year award. Thanks to CMT’s television shows, series and specials, there have been plenty of rocking live shows aired on the television station this year. But none beat out Jason Aldean, who took home his first gold buckle ever.

Aldean accepted his award gladly, but not without his usual cool, calm and collected manner. The rocking country singer walked on stage wearing jeans, a black leather shirt and his signature black hat. The first words out of his mouth were to thank his fans — and to point out that the gold statue marked his first ever CMT Music Award.

Aldean’s award was given because of his energetic rendition of ‘Tattoos on This Town,’ which he performed on CMT late last year. The singer kept his thank yous short and sweet, but he didn’t forget to give props to CMT for their longtime support of country music.

Congrats to the ‘Tattoos on this Town’ hitmaker for winning his first CMT Music Award! Although, our hearts go out to Carrie Underwood who knows now that she won’t be taking home awards for all five of her nominations at the end of the night.
