Bullying has always been a problem, but lately it has been getting the attention it has needed for years. More and more kids are taking their own lives because they feel alone in the world. This is something that hits very close to home for me.

When I was in school, I was the victim of school bullying. I remember going home in tears every day from school because of what happened. I felt that my mom and dad didn't understand because they never DID anything about it. It happened every day and no one seemed to care.

It did get better for me as I grew and realized that these people that were giving me so much crap were the ones that truly had problems at home. I can now look back at most of those bullies and they are either in jail, have been in jail or are dead. I now realize these people were the ones with true problems and had to find someone weaker to take them out on.

Today's entertainers, artists, mentors and even kids have begun posting videos on YouTube for the "It Gets Better Project." One of these videos features a track from Jake Owen's album Easy Does It. The song was never released for airplay, but I feel it should have been as the message in the song is so important. The song is Nothin' Grows In Shadows.

This young lady took the song and played it as the backdrop for her video on 10 reasons to smile. Jake found out that his song had been used in the video when the creator tweeted it out to him. Jake says that this song reminded him of his own life. His parents didn't know anything about music, but as soon as they let him go, he truly blossomed.

Check out the video, share it with your kids and please talk to you kids about being bullied. They may be getting bullied and you don't even know it.
