Low humidities and strong winds in the forecast, combined with dry vegetation across Central Minnesota has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning in effect today through 5 PM for much of the area including Stearns County.

Northwest winds of 20 mph with gusts of 45 mph are expected as humidity levels drop to less than 25% in the afternoon. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly this afternoon.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
