I Once Left House Keys On Top Of My Car And Then Drove Off

Have you ever driven off with something on the roof of your car?  I have and it was a disaster!

I was reading a story about someone who left money on top of an armored car and then drove off.  It brought me back to a time several years ago when I was a house sitting for a friend.

She and her family were off to California for an extended amount of time and they wanted someone to stay at the house with their dog.  I was in college at the time so it was no problem.  One day I stopped at the house to drop my school stuff off on my way to work.  I set their house keys on top of the car and even reminded myself to grab them.  Yeah, let's just say that didn't happen.

I got back that night and I'm frantically searching for the keys.  I'm walking up and down the road, through the yard, I can't find them anywhere.  I'm freaking out!  So eventually I go to the back of the house where there's a window.  I cut out the screen, open the window and manage to get in.

I thought they'd be a little upset when I told them but they just laughed and I paid to get the screen repaired.  I never did find the keys though.
