The 3rd ranked St. Cloud State Huskies (22-5-1) dominated the Bemidji Beavers (11-11-1) 5-2 this evening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul to claim their first Northstar College Cup title in the tournament's third year. Minnesota State (Mankato) beat the Minnesota Gophers 3-2 earlier in the day in the third place game.

  • Championship Game:  St. Cloud State 5, Bemidji State 2

The Golden Gophers won the title in the first year of the tournament in 2014, but have now gone 0-2 the last two years. The BSU Beavers won the cup in 2015.

The Gophers are the permanent hosts of the tournament, with Minnesota's other four Division I schools cycling through the remaining three spots. UMD was the odd team out this year.

Next up for the Huskies: a two-game NCHC series at Miami University Friday and Saturday night in Oxford, Ohio.
