The Apollo Eagles were 0-9 in 2011 under head coach Justin Skallerud. Apollo suffered a 21-20 loss at home against Willmar late in the season which shows the improvement made throughout the season. The Eagles are a young team against with 44 freshman out, 40 sophomores and around 20 juniors and 20 seniors.

The Eagles plan to start now sophomore Ben Alvord at quarterback. Alvord saw some time as the starting quarterback as a freshman last season before suffering a sprained MCL. Larry Miller is expected to take over for Nam Nguyen at the tailback position. Nguyen led the team in rushing and was the top game-breaker in 2011. Nguyen and Brandon Bloch were the two all conference choices for Apollo.

The Eagles will open the season at Sartell-St. Stephen this season on August 31 followed by home games against Rogers and Rocori before playing at Alexandria on September 22. Apollo will host Brainerd on September 28, will play at Sauk Rapids-Rice on October 5, will host Tech on October 12 and will close the regular season at Fergus Falls on October 17.
