The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of Central Minnesota today with the expectation that the heat index will approach 100˚ -- due to high temps in the lower 90s, and dew points in the 70s. Additionally, there will be a threat of severe weather.

From the National Weather Service:  Hot and humid conditions are expected across the area today with highs from around 90 to the middle 90s. Factoring in the humidity, the heat index during the afternoon and evening will climb to near 100 degrees from the Twin Cities on west and south. A heat advisory remains in effect from noon to 9 pm. In addition, strong to severe thunderstorms may develop during the late afternoon across central Minnesota and head southeast through the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin during the evening. Large hail and damaging winds are the main severe weather threats.
