Stars Who've Suffered Tragedy

“Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years," the statement adds. "During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times.”

Allman's tough times included a long struggle with addiction over the decades. He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2007, and underwent a liver transplant in 2010, followed by lung surgery in 2012.

The Southern music icon, who was a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, canceled all of his tour dates for 2017 in March with little explanation after he previously canceled a string of shows in 2016 during a bout with pneumonia. In April, the singer turned to social media to say that he was just resting at home, and not in hospice care as had been rumored.

Allman is survived by his five children. His cause of death had not been confirmed at press time. His family are planning to release a statement.
