PAYNESVILLE -- Members of the Minnesota Gophers football team will be casting their lines this weekend on Lake Koronis in Paynesville.

The Central Lakes Bass Anglers along with the Goal Line Club is hosting their second annual Gopher Fishing Classic. Organizer Ron Mehr says the event kicks off Friday afternoon with a meet and greet and live music.

"We're going to have several former players including Gopher great Rickey Foggie, and then after the show is over we will have live music playing as well," says Mehr.

Saturday morning begins the fishing tournament, followed by comments from head coach P.J. Fleck on the upcoming season.  Mehr says while many of the Gopher staff will be trying to reel in the catch of the day, Fleck wants to spend more time getting to know the fan base.

"He wants to ride around on a pontoon and talk to all the fisherman as they're fishing. He's a people person and wants to talk to as many fans as he can," says Mehr.

Tickets for the event are $20 per person and you're asked to register ahead of time. The fun starts at 4:30 p.m. at Bug Bee Hive and Resort. All are welcomed to attend.
