This week, George Strait‘s new song ‘Love’s Gonna Make it Alright’ became his 85th Top 10 single on the Billboard country song charts. The legend continues to distance himself from any modern country singer while he chases Eddy Arnold’s record of 92 Top 10 hits.

According to Billboard, Arnold tallied his hits between 1945 and 1980, while Strait first pegged a Top 10 with ‘Unwound’ in 1981. The singer and new grandfather also holds the record for most country No. 1′s with 44 on the Billboard charts, in addition to many more that reached the top on the Mediabase chart.

The legend has averaged two Top 10 hits a year in recent years, meaning he’s on pace to break Arnold’s record in 2016. However, on his last album ‘Here For a Good Time,’ Strait hinted that he sees himself slowing down before too much longer. He’s already eased up on his concert schedule with only a few dozen dates scheduled for 2012. His next show is this Friday in Atlanta, Ga., with opener Martina McBride.
