Just a few weeks ago, country legend George Jones was released from the hospital after a six-day stay for an upper respiratory infection. While Jones seemed to be on the mend at the time, and planned to dive back into his tour schedule starting April 20, the ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’ legend just announced on his website that he’s postponing his shows this weekend — April 20 and 21 — due to an ongoing recovery.

Doctors advised the 80-year-old talent to remain at his Tennessee home for another week and take the time to fully recover. As a result, Jones had to postpone his weekend shows in Minnesota and South Dakota, both of which will have to be rescheduled once the star is feeling better. And while he’s willingly following his doctor’s orders, Jones said that he regrets having to make that call.

“I never want to cancel a show, but I have to do what the doctors tell me,” he said in a statement. “I thank all the fans from the bottom of my heart for their prayers and I look forward to seeing them on the road soon.”

Even after two different stints in the hospital, Jones seems as determined as ever to keep touring and performing and bringing his fans the music they love. Though, he will have to decide if he’s feeling up for the next shows on his schedule — stops in Texas and Missouri April 27 and 28. Then, in May Jones is scheduled to make a few stops in Canada.

We wish the iconic hitmaker the best and hope he continues to recover so he can keep bringing his legendary sound to his international fanbase.
