SARTELL --  A Foley girl and a Dassel-Cokato boy are the first place winners of this year's Regional Spelling Bee.

Haley Evenson, an 8th grader at Foley Intermediate School, took first place in Wednesday's morning section and will go on to the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee in Fergus Falls, February 21. Evenson says she expects the competition to be fierce at the next level.

"There's obviously going to be a lot of really good spellers there. So it'll be more difficult."

Evenson will be joined by second place winner Eleanor King of Rockford, at the state competition. King says she's happy to take second but she's going to hit the books more before the next competition.

"I'm going to study more than last time because last time I kind of took some nights off when I didn't think I needed it."

The first place winner in the afternoon section, 8th grader, Nicholas Little of Dassel-Cokato and the second place winner, 8th grader, Jacob Boe of Big Lake will also go onto the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee.

One winner from the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee will go on to the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. on May 28.
