MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota's top athletes, at all levels, will be honored on Wednesday. Sports Minneapolis, powered by Meet Minneapolis, is hosting their first-ever Minnesota Sports Awards.

Spokeswoman Kathy McCarthy says they will be handing out six awards.

One of my favorite awards will be the Lifetime Achievement Award, which we will be honoring Rod Carew the legendary Twins player and National Baseball Hall of Famer.

Another award will go to the Professional Athlete of the Year.

Our finalists were Sylvia Fowles from the Minnesota Lynx, Jason Zucker from the Minnesota Wild, and Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins.

McCarthy says the award for the Minnesota Sports Moment of the Year was hotly contested.

Once we had our finalists, that was open to a public vote, the three finalists were the Minnesota Lynx winning their fourth WNBA championship, the Minnesota Twins clinching a wild-card playoff spot, and Farmington softball winning their first ever 4A state tournament title with a walk-off home run.

Other awards are High School Athlete of the Year, Collegiate Athlete of the Year, and the Courage Award.

The event will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Target Center in Minneapolis.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Positive Coaching Alliance.
