Welcome to the start of Summer! Warm temperatures and warming bodies of water mean mosquitoes will be hatching and wood ticks will be looking to cling to us and our pets. Here are a few different things I have found online that help repel the critters without reaching for a spray can off the superstore shelf.

Tick Repellent: Mix 1 part tea tree oil and and 2 parts water in a spray bottle. Spay it on the family's shoes, socks and pants cuffs to help repel wood and deer ticks.

Vick's Vapor Rub: This magic goop can be used as a repellent as well as a remedy to stop itchy bites. VapoRub contains cedarleaf oil, which is a natural insect repellent. Just rub a little bit on your skin and clothing to help keep mosquitoes away!

Dried Herb Bug Spray: You will need distilled water, witch hazel or rubbing alcohol, and dried herbs of peppermint, spearmint, citronella, lemongrass, catnip, or lavender. Get the full "How To" on making this one here!
