It's a scenario which has played out in countless homes over the years. The kids want a puppy, but the dad isn't so sure it's a good idea.

But when the Cordell girls, Cadence, 12, and Emerson, 9, went to their father Ryan with their canine request, he added a social media clause -- he would get his daughters a dog if they could get one million likes on Facebook.

The idea came from another family, who bought their kids a cat after they accumulated 10,000 Facebook likes. Ryan must have thought a million likes would put a puppy out of reach. Boy, was he wrong.

On Tuesday at 8 PM the girls posted a picture of themselves and their three younger brothers holding a sign reading "Hi World – We want a puppy! Our dad said we could get one if we get one million likes."

By the next morning they were well on their way to a million. The final tally in the first 24 hours was 1.2 million likes, and it just keeps going up.

According to mom Evie, the thumbs up-explosion is probably do to her husband's contacts, since he set up the Two Girls And A Puppy Facebook page and he happens to work in social media. Hmm, maybe dad wasn't as against getting a dog as he was leading on.
