I hope this happens in Minnesota, because half the time I can't find my license when I need it anyway.

This is really quite interesting and it's happening for our neighbors to the south.  According to a FOX News article, residents in Iowa will no longer need their physical driver's license.  An app is in the works that will make it so users can access their driver's license right from their smartphone using a PIN.

This means if users get pulled over by the police or are going through security at the airport they can get to their license without digging through wallets and fumbling through large handbags.  That doesn't mean physical driver's licenses will go away, it will just make certain things easier with a digital one.

Personally, I like this idea because I never seem to put my license back where I got it and inevitably I can't find it the next time I need it.   I do see where there could be some downsides -- fears of identity theft and such but overall, I think this would be a great way for all of us to keep our licenses handy.
