Citations Down Again Over SCSU Move-In Week
ST. CLOUD — For the second year in a row, the number of citations issued on St. Cloud State University’s move-in weekend is down.
Once again, St. Cloud Police, St. Cloud State University and city officials worked together in an effort to reduce the number of drinking related incidents on the southside.
There were a total of 75 people cited for various offenses this year, compared to 107 last year and 137 in 2015. SCSU says 23 of the 75 offenders are students.
It was the second consecutive year where move-in day had been pushed up from Saturday to Thursday and police and city officials again went door-to-door to welcome students and remind them of local ordinances.
Police say the greeters made contact with 195 southside houses and 50 apartment complexes totaling more than 2,700 people.
The most violations were for open container with 34 and there were 28 minor consumption tickets issued. Some other citations include four disruptive intoxications, two disorderly conducts and seven public urinations.
A total of 13 people were booked into the Stearns County Jail during the increased enforcement period Thursday-Saturday night.
