With severe weather possible today & tonight across Central Minnesota, it's a good time for a refresher on the difference between a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado 'WATCH,' and a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado 'WARNING.' Here's the scoop:
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for most of the southern half of Minnesota in effect until 10 PM -- including Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne counties. Stay tuned to 98.1 for any updates or warnings.
We're going to be pushing 70˚ this afternoon ahead of a strong cold front that will usher in showers & thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some of those storms could be severe with damaging winds. Stay tuned to 98.1 and we'll keep up to date.
A strong cold front will move through the area Monday bringing with it a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Behind the front, very strong 35-40 mph winds will develop, gusting as high as 60 mph -- prompting the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Watch for west central Minnesot…
The spring rollercoaster ride of temperatures has arrived. Highs today in St. Cloud will reach the upper 40s, before soaring into the lower 60s tomorrow and Monday -- but like any good rollercoaster, you need a few dips in there too. Highs on Tuesday will only be in the mid 30s.
Yesterday's strong winter storm has exited the state, and left behind some eye-popping snowfall totals across southern Minnesota. The totals drop off quickly as you move north, with the Twin Cities receiving the same as we did here in St. Cloud -- none.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has issued a 'No Travel Advisory' for parts of southern Minnesota for tonight through tomorrow due to expected blizzard conditions. A Blizzard Warning has been issued, and hazardous road conditions with severely reduced visibilities are expected.
With the forecast models coming together on how this winter storm will likely play out, the National Weather Service is calling for a big fat 18" of snow for the Rochester area, with a dusting for St. Cloud. Happy shoveling to the Med City from the Granite City!
