The Minnesota Wild (43-17-6) beat the Florida Panthers (29-26-11) 7-4 last night in the Sunshine State. After trailing 4-3, the Wild netted four third period goals, including a pair of empty-netters to get the win.
The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders (21-7-2) saw their season come to an end today, losing in the semifinals to #1 Hermantown (28-1-1) 6-5 in overtime. Hermantown will face Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake (23-6-1) for the Class A Boys Hockey Championship tomorrow at Noon at the Xcel Energy Center.
The St. Cloud State men's hockey team (16-17-1) is at North Dakota (18-14-3) this weekend for a best-of-three quarterfinals series that starts tonight in Grand Forks. The Huskies are the #5 seed in this year's tournament. The UND Hawks are seeded #4.
The game was tied at two before the Cards rattled off a 9-0 run and never looked back. A 14-0 run for Alexandria that carried over from late in the first half to early in the second made the score 27-9.
Following quarterfinal action at the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament in St. Paul, the final four teams in both classes are set and ready to make a run at the state titles. Good luck to both Cathedral and Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake.
