Every year, when the Oscar nominations are announced, a considerable amount of time is spent debating who was snubbed. But for every film that was expecting to get nominated and didn't, there's a film that no one was expecting to get nominated and did. This is the story of those films. The movies you'll look back on and wonder exactly how the heck it ever got nominated for an Oscar.

Justice. Equality. Civil Rights. These are thoughts many of us reflect on today and some even marched about across the country. Does today's holiday mean something to you, or is it another holiday for apathy and indifference?

A lot of people are going to act like they didn’t see the enormous success of ‘American Sniper’ coming, but the signs were all there. On top of the promising limited release numbers, there was the awards buzz. On top of that, there were the names of director Clint Eastwood and star Bradley Cooper. On top of that, the subject matter of the film is inherently attractive to the same category of moviegoer that makes Christian-themed films into massive hits. ‘American Sniper’ had one doozy of a weekend, but it’s not that surprising.

Well, that was interesting. Just when you think you've got the Oscars figured out, they throw you a huge curve ball. Or, maybe what's so surprising about this year's nominations is how nothing is really different?

The 2015 Golden Globes winners will be revealed during the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler-hosted awards ceremony, broadcast live on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST on NBC. The 2015 Golden Globes winners are considered somewhat of a primer for the upcoming Oscars (both of which feature many of the same big Hollywood names and movies of the past year), but not exactly a perfect predictor either. Many movies and actors have won at the Golden Globes only to not even be nominated at the Oscars. After the jam-packed month of December, with its huge family-friendly blockbusters and awards season Oscar bait, we have arrived in the month of January. Formerly a dumping ground for mediocre films, the month has taken on a new identity in the past few years as a testing ground for unique genre films (think ‘Cloverfield’) and a solid place to release a horror movie, which seems to do quite well right around New Year’s for whatever reason. This year, we have ‘The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death,’ which had a fairly solid opening. Not solid enough to topple the Christmas Week champions, but no one is complaining too much.

I'm not sure how much of what Sony has said or done is a publicity stunt, and how much is real reaction to the political climate -- but either way, it has been a PR gift from heaven as 'The Interview' has become Sony's number one online movie of all time (in just four days). I watched it last night and couldn't stop laughing.

There’s no consensus on what the best Christmas movie of all-time is, but ‘Elf‘ would have to be up there with the best of them. Released in 2003, the film has gone on to become a bonafide classic, watched as many times over the holidays as ‘A Christmas Story’ or ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. As expected, ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ won the weekend, but a quick examination of the actual numbers makes this victory feel just a little hollow. The same goes for ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ and ‘Annie,’ both of which took second and third place without putting forward particularly impressive numbers. Yep, the holiday box office looked just a little rough this weekend.

There are so many great movies to watch this time of year but my all time favorite is Home Alone!

The Sony hacking scandal has proven to be a massive headache for a company that’s already been having a rough few years. And now, this increasingly weird story has taken an even darker turn: the hackers are threatening to launch terrorist attacks against theaters showing ‘The Interview’ this Christmas. Seriously.
