A bill submitted to the Minnesota Senate was discussed Wednesday that would allow terminally ill patients the opportunity to receive life-ending medication.

The bill, submitted by Senator Chris Eaton, would require that at least two doctors sign off for this life-ending medication, based on the patient's state of mind. This assisted suicide option would be only for terminally ill patients who have 6-months or less to live.

In 1999 Dr. Jack Kevorkian was arrested for multiple cases of voluntary euthanasia and served 8-years in prison (source: Wikipedia). This bill would not allow a single physician to make their decision with the patient, and would give final say to the patient through the entire process.

Even though the bill is submitted, Senator Eaton doesn't expect it to be officially heard until next year.
