98 Country is proud to salute our Veteran Of The Month, Staff Sgt. Jeremy Mashuga. Originally from Cambridge, Jeremy is now stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia.

Jeremy enlisted in the Army National Guard at 17 years old. He completed boot camp the summer between his junior and senior year of high school. He completed his AIT training once he graduated and within the next year transferred into active duty army.

He has completed three tours of duty, two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

His parents nominated him and here is what they had to say about Jeremy:

"He is a humble soldier, not wanting to call attention to his service to his country or discuss his deployments. We were informed by his section Sargent during his first deployment to Iraq, that Jeremy was put in for two medals of valor and turned them both down. While he has earned multiple medals over the past 10 years, including 3 purple hearts during the last tour, he has turned many of them down.

Within the past year, he was moved out of a combat unit and into a non-combat unit against his wishes due to the injuries he received in his last tour of duty. He continues to serve in this capacity.

I am proud to say Jeremy is my son and my hero."

Thank you, Jeremy, for serving our country!
