Our February Veteran of the Month is PFC Tom Allen of Clearwater.  Tom, thank you so much for your service to our country!

Tom's daughter, Laurie, nominated her dad because of his four years of dedicated service to the United States Army and because of his continued dedication to veterans.  Here's what Laurie wrote to us:

My dad served his country honorably for four years in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany as a Private First Class.

Although I am extremely proud of him for this, this is not the reason why I am nominating him for Veteran of the Month. My dad has spent the last 37 years helping other Veterans in need.
He has served his fellow Veterans by donating his time and energy within the American Legion where he has held the honor of Commander six different times, Vice Commander five times and Membership three times. It is because of his dedication to helping his fellow veterans that he became even more involved and has been part of the Sons of the American Legion for the past 10 years.

Due to his commitment to the veterans and their families, my dad was asked to join an honor group of the American Legion, the Forty & Eight, which he has honorably served for over 30 years, taking a Vice Commander position at the district level.

One of the more honorable things I feel my dad does is donating time to the Department of Veterans Affairs at the St. Cloud VA and Minneapolis Veterans Home, which helps disabled veterans and their families find the help that they need within the VA, whether it's finding  medical help or just to find help filling out a form.

If you need to find my dad you will probably find him up at the VA helping out by calling bingo or playing a round of poker with the "guys" during Monte Carlo nights.

As you can see, my dad honorably served his country in the US Army but his service did not stop there.  I am awed and humbled by what my dad has accomplished within the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, Forty & Eight and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
My dad's unwavering dedication to his Country and his fellow Veterans for the past 37 years is why he deserves to be recognized and to be honored as Veteran of the Month.

Tom, from all of us here at 98 Country, we appreciate you risking your life to defend our country in the United States Army.  Your continued service to veterans is incredible, admirable and undoubtedly, appreciated!

If you have a special veteran in your life make sure to nominate them to be Veteran of the Month!

Tom stopped in to the studio to chat with me and he filled me in on how he's helping out veterans.
