Third Rate Romance is written by Russell Smith and recorded by The Amazing Rhythm Aces from the album Stacked Deck.  The song reached number 11 on the country chart.

John Anderson – “Seminole Wind” - 1992

 

 

Seminole Wind is written and recorded by John Anderson.  It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

Johnny Cash – “Rock Island Line” - 1970

 

 

Many versions have been recorded by various artists, most significantly by Lonnie Donegan in the mid 1950’s.  Johnny Cash recorded the song twice, once in 1957 and again in 1970. It reached number 35 on the country chart in 1970.

News & Events from 1970:

  • Midnight Cowboy wins the Best Picture Oscar; the first and only time an X-rated movie received the honor.

Dave and Sugar – “Queen of the Silver Dollar” - 1976

 

 

Dave and Sugar’s first single Queen of the Silver Dollar was originally recorded by Dr. Hook in 1972.  The song was written by one of the great song writers, Shel Silversteid and it peaked at number 25 on the country chart.

News & Events of 1976:

  • A tidal wave in the Philippines kills 5,000
  • The $2.00 bill was issued
  • Reese Witherspoon is born March 22nd.

Linda Ronstadt – “Silver Threads and Golden Needles” - 1974

 

 

Linda Ronstadt recorded and released two versions of this song.  The first was in 1969 and the second was a pop crossover version in 1974 which topped out at number 20 on the country chart.
