Michael Martin Murphy – “What’s Forever For” - 1982

 

 

 

What’s Forever For was written by Rafe Vanhoy and recorded by Michael Martin Murphy.  It was Murphy’s first number one on the Country Chart.

News and Events in 1982:

  • A major recession hits the United States
  • Tylenol capsules laced with potassium cyanide kills seven in Chicago.
  • US postage stamps were 20 cents
  • Gas was $1.59 a gallon.

Paper Rosie was written by Dallas Harms and covered by Gene Watson, who took the song to number three on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

  • The TV miniseries Roots draws an audience of 130 million.

Dave Dudley – “The Pool Shark”- 1970

 

 

 

The Pool Shark is a song written by the great storyteller, Tom T. Hall and recorded by Dave Dudley.  It’s from the album of the same name and it was Dudley’s only number one hit.

News and Events from 1970:

  • On May 4th National Guardsman opened fire on a group of students, wounding many, four fatally on the campus of Kent State University.
  • California is the first no-fault divorce state
  • The floppy disc was invented.
