Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers – “All the Gold in California” -- 1979

Larry Gatlin wrote this song while stuck in a traffic jam in Los Angeles.  (You never know when your creative instinct is going to hit, right?)  Larry and the brothers released this song in August 1979 from the album, ‘Straight Ahead.’  “All the Gold in California” went to number one for two weeks and spent a total of ten weeks on the chart.  In the national news just before the release of this song, President Carter and Brezhnev of the Soviet Union sign the Salt II Agreement.

All the gold in California is on a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills.

Bobby Helms – “Fraulein” -- 1957

“Fraulein” was written by Lawton Williams.  It was Bobby Helms' debut single, released in February 1957.  Reaching number one for four weeks and staying on the country chart for 52 weeks.  While this song was still on the charts, the evening of June 20, 1957 around 7:30 pm, an F5 tornado struck Fargo, North Dakota killing 13 people.

Far across deep blue waters lives an old German’s daughter.

Dave and Sugar – “I’m Knee-Deep in Loving You” -- 1977

A song written by Sonny Throckmorton and recorded by the country group Dave and Sugar, “I’m Knee-Deep in Loving You” was released in 1977 from the album, ‘That’s the Way Love Should Be.’  The song reached number two on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.  While this song was moving on the chart, making headlines -- Nuclear Proliferation Pact was signed by the US and USSR curbing the spread of Nuclear weapons.

Well I’m knee deep in loving your done got deeper than I wanted to.

Lynn Anderson – “Rose Garden” -- 1970

“I Never Promised You a Rose Garden” is written by Joe South.  Lynn Anderson’s October 1970 release topped the Billboard Country Chart for five weeks.  Earlier in 1970,  the Minnesota Vikings were beaten by Kansas City in the Super Bowl 23 to 7.

I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden along with the sunshine there’s gotta be a little rain some time.

George Strait – “The Chair” -- 1985

“The Chair” is a song written by Dean Dillion and Hank Cochran and recorded by George Strait.  It was released in August 1985 from the album “Something Special.”  It peaked at number one on the country chart.  In the spring of 1985, Coca-Cola attempts to change its 99-year-old formula in an effort to attract younger drinkers.  New Coke was poorly received.

Well excuse me but I think you’ve got my chair, no that one’s not taken.
