Don Williams – “You’re My Best Friend” - 1975

 

 

 

You’re My Best Friend is a song written by Wayland Holyfield and recorded by Don Williams.  It was released in April of 1975 from the album of the same name.  This song was Don's second number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in June of 1975.

News & Events from 1975:

Anne Murray – “A Little Good News” - 1983

 

 

Anne Murray, known as the first lady of country music in Canada recorded A Little Good News.  The song was written by Tommy Rocco, Charlie Black and Rory Bourke.  It scored a number one on the Billboard Country Chart in 1983.

News & Events from 1983:

  • The first mobile phones are introduced to the public by Motorola company.
  • Sally Ride on June 18th becomes the first American woman in space on the space shuttle ‘Challenger’
  • A gallon of milk was $1.25.

Buck Owens – “My Heart Skips a Beat” - 1964

 

 

 

A 1964 single by Buck Owens, he wrote and recorded it, and it became Owens third number one single.  This song spent seven weeks at the top spot at number one.

News & Events from 1964:

  • On June 12th in their first Minnesota appearance, The Rolling Stones flop badly drawing only 283 fans to Danceland at Excelsior Park.
  • Jack Ruby convicted of murder in the slaying of Lee Harvey Oswald
  • A postage stamp was 5 cents
  • A ticket to the movies was $1.25.

Eddie Rabbitt – “The Wanderer” - 1988

 

 

 

The Wanderer is a song written by Ernie Maresca and originally recorded by Dion.  Eddie Rabbitt covered the song in 1988 and hit number one on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles Chart.

News & Events of 1988:

  • a new drug, crack, appears and is increasingly found in US cities.
  • The first transatlantic fiber optic cable is laid and is able to carry 40,000 telephone calls simultaneously
  • Laser eye surgery first used in the USA.

Trisha Yearwood – “She’s in Love with the Boy” - 1991

 

 

 

Jon Ims wrote this song and it was recorded by Trisha Yearwood.  The song was released in March of 1991 reaching number one on the Billboard Hot Country Chart.

News & Events of 1991:

  • Two weeks before the Minnesota gubernatorial election candidate Jon Grunseth quits the race after accusations surface that he swam nude with teenage girls.
  • The US indicts two Libyans in 1988 bombing of Pan AM flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland
  • Some technological advances include the airbag and the web browser are introduced.
