Making the News in 1995:

  • Scores are killed as terrorist car bomb blows-up block-long Oklahoma City federal building on April 19th. Timothy McVeigh is arrested as a suspect.
  • Los Angeles jury finds O.J. Simpson not guilty of murder charges October 3rd.
  • Pope John Paul II visits U.S. in early October.
  • Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell create the World’s first cloned sheep.
  • We lose “Grateful Dead” front man Jerry Garcia, Howard Cosell, Rose Kennedy and Mickey Mantel.

Country music radio was playing Alan Jackson, Pam Tillis, George Strait, Trisha Yearwood and Clint Black.

 


 

Alan Jackson – “Gone Country”

 

 

“Gone Country” was written by Bob McDill and recorded by Alan Jackson.  The song was released in November 1994 from the album, ‘Who I Am.’  “Gone Country” reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1994 and stayed in the top ten into early 1995.

She’s been playing in a room on the strip for ten years in Vegas, every night she looks in the mirror and she only ages.

 


 

Pam Tillis – “Mi-Vida Loca (My Crazy Life)”

 

 

This song is co-written and recorded by Pam Tillis, she co-wrote the song with Jess Leary.  “Mi-Vida Loca” which is Spanish for ‘my crazy life’ was released in November of 1994 from the album ‘Sweet Heart’s Dance.’  The song peaked at number one and stayed in the top ten into 1995, Tillis’ only number one single.

George Strait – “Check Yes or No”

 

 

Danny Wells and Dana Hunt wrote “Check Yes or No” and recorded by George Strait.  It was released in September 1995 from the album ‘Straight out of the Box.”  The song peaked at number one in October of 1995 and stayed at number one for four weeks.

It started way back in third grade I used to sit beside Emmylou Hayes.

 


 

Trisha Yearwood – “Thinkin’ About You”

 

 

“Thinkin’ of You” is from the album of the same name.  It was Trisha Yearwood's third number one single staying at number one for two weeks in January of 1995.

I’m not quite sure what’s going on but all day through and all night long I’ve been thinkin’ about you. 

 


 

Clint Black – “Summer’s Comin’”

 

 

“Summer’s Comin’” is co-written and recorded by singer Clint Black and Hayden Nicholas.  It was released in March of 1995 from the album ‘One Emotion’ and peaked at number one in April and stayed at that position for three weeks.

Nothin' on Earth that’ll get me hummin’ like a heat wave comin’ and I’ll come runnin’.
