Charley Pride – “Kiss an Angel Good Morning” -- 1971

 

 

This song is written by Ben Peters and recorded by Charley Pride. It was released in 1971 from the album, ‘Charley Pride Sings Heart Songs.’  It was Pride’s eighth song to reach number one on the country charts.  About the time this song reached the top spot on the country charts in late October, President Mobuto renamed the Democratic Republic of Congo, establishing Zaire on October 27, 1971.

Buck Owens – “Tall Dark Stranger” -- 1969

 

 

“Tall Dark Stranger is a 1969 single written and recorded by Buck Owens.  The song was released on July 21, 1969, Owens 20th number one hit.  On July 18th, Senator Edward Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident at Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts in which Mary Jo Kopechne drowned.

Beware of a tall dark stranger if he comes ridin’ into your town a tall dark stranger is danger.

 


 

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton – “Islands in the Stream” -- 1983

 

 

This song is written by the Bee Gees, the title is named after the Earnest Hemingway novel and it's sung by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.  It was released in August 1983 from the album, ‘Eyes that See in the Dark.’ The song rocketed to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Chart.  Making headlines in August of 1983 -- the US admited to shielding former Nazi Gestapo Chief Klaus Barbie wanted in France for War crimes August 15th.

Connie Smith – “Once a Day” -- 1964

 

 

"Once a Day" is written by Bill Anderson and recorded by Connie Smith as her debut single.  The song was released on August 1, 1964 topping the Billboard Country Chart for eight weeks.  Making headlines -- Jack Ruby was convicted of murder in the slaying of President Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.

When you found somebody new I thought I never would forget you.

 


 

George Strait – “Baby Blue” -- 1988

 

Aaron Barker wrote “baby Blue” and recorded by George Strait.  It was released in April 1988 from the album, ‘If You Ain’t Lovin’, You Ain’t Livin’.’  It became a number one hit.  In November of this year, Republicans swept 40 states in the election and George Bush beat Michael DuKakis.

She looked so much like a lady, but she was so much like a child.
