John Anderson - "Money in the Bank" -- 1993

 

 

Bob DiPiero, John Jarrard and Mark Sanders wrote "Money in the Bank" and was recorded by John Anderson.  It was released in April 1993 from the album, "Solid Ground."  It shot to number one on Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

IN THE NEWS -- In 1993, the Minnesota North Stars hockey team plays its final game, losing to Chicago 3-2 before moving to Dallas.   And five were arrested and a sixth sought in the  bombing of the World Trade Center in New York on March 29th.

Clint Black - "Better Man" -- 1989

 

 

"Better Man" is co-written by Clint Black and Hayden Nicholas.  Clint Black performed a "Better Man" and was released from the album, 'Killin' Time.'  It was Black's first music video. The song peaked at number one in June.

IN THE NEWS -- In 1989, after 28 years, the Berlin Wall is opened to the West on November 11th.  And on October 22nd, Jacob Wetterling of St. Joseph, MN is kidnapped by a masked gunman and has yet to be found.

Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius - "I Don't Want to Have to Marry You" -- 1976

 

 

"I Don't Want to Have to Marry You" is a single by the duo of Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius.  The single is from the album of the same name.  It stayed at number one for two weeks and was on the country chart for ten weeks.

IN THE NEWS -- A mysterious disease strikes American Legion Convention in Philadelphia, eventually claiming 29 lives in August 1976

I don't want to have to marry you, I don't want to have to say I do.

 


 

Crystal Gayle - "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue" -- 1977

 

 

This song is written by Richard Leigh and recorded by Crystal Gayle.  It's from Gayle's album 'We Must Believe in Magic.'  The song peaked at number one and stayed at that position for four weeks on the country chart.  Just for the record, Gayle herself has blue eyes.

IN THE NEWS --  A nuclear-proliferation pact curbing  the spread of nuclear weapons is signed by 15 countries including the U.S.

Don't know when I've been so blue, don't know what's come over you, you've found someone new.

 


 

Alan Jackson - "I'll Try" -- 1996

 

 

"I'll Try" is written and recorded by Alan Jackson.  The song became a number one hit on Billboard's Hot Country List.

IN THE NEWS --  On February 2, 1960 the coldest temperature recorded in the state's history -- minus 60 in Tower Minnesota.  On November 30th, while playing "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" at a Gala Benefit at the Women's Club of Minneapolis, singer Tiny Tim suffers a heart attack on stage and dies at Hennepin County Medical Center.
