David Allan Coe – “The Ride” (1993)

 

 

“The Ride” is written by Gary Gentry and JB Detterline Jr. and recorded by David Allan Coe.  It was released in February 1983 and the song spent 19 weeks on the Billboard Country Singles Chart peaking at number four.

IN THE NEWS: A terrorist explosion kills 237 US Marines in Beirut October 23rd and the US invades Grenada October 23rd.

John Conlee – “Old School” (1985)

 

 

Russell Smith and Don Schlitz wrote “Old School” and recorded by John Conlee.  It was released in 1985. The song reached number five on Billboard's Hot Country Singles Chart.

IN THE NEWS:  Lou Holtz resigns as the coach of the Golden Gophers and goes to Notre Dame.  With the availability of inexpensive laser printers and computers, tool for desktop publishing begins to be commonly used.

I can remember us cruising through town in your daddy’s car with the top pulled down looking so cool.

 


 

Lynn Anderson – “How Can I Unlove You” (1971)

 

 

Joe South wrote “How Can I Unlove You.”  It became a number one country hit for Lynn Anderson. It was released in August 1971.

IN THE NEWS: The Monticello Nuclear Power Plant’s tank of radioactive cooling water overflows, eventually reaching the Mississippi River.  Twenty-sixth amendment to the US Constitution lowers voting age to 18 in June.

Johnny Duncan – “She Can Put Her Shoes Under My Bed Anytime” (1978)

 

 

“She Can Put Her Shoes Under My Bed Anytime” a number one hit for Johnny Duncan.  Aaron Schroeder and Bob Halley wrote that hit song.  It was Duncan’s third and final number one hit.

IN THE NEWS: Balloon angioplasty is developed to treat coronary artery disease.  And Hubert H. Humphrey dies of cancer and is buried at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Suzy Bogguss – “Someday Soon” (1991)

 

 

Ian Tyson wrote “Someday Soon.”  This song has been recorded by many artists through the years.  Suzy Bogguss charted a recording of the song in 1991 topping out at number 12 on the Billboard Singles Chart from her album ‘Aces.’

IN THE NEWS: On June 13th lightning strikes during the US open Championship at Hazeltine national golf club in Chaska, Minnesota killing one spectator and injuring five others.  This is also the same year of the now famous Halloween blizzard that hit Minnesota hard on October 31st and November 1st.  And Fox broadcasting becomes the first network to permit condom advertising on television.

There’s a young man that I know whose age is twenty one, comes from down in southern Colorado.
