Garth Brooks – “The Dance” -- 1990

 

 

This song is considered by many to be Garth Brooks' signature song, topping the chart at number one.

  • Margaret Thatcher resigns as British Prime Minister November 22nd, John Major succeeds her on November 28th

Tommy Cash – “Six White Horses” -- 1969

 

 

Tommy Cash is the little brother of country icon, Johnny Cash.  The song was written by Larry Murray and reached number four on the Billboard Country chart.

In the news in 1969:

  • Apollo 11 Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin Jr take the first walk on the moon on July 20th
  • Richard Nixon succeeds Lyndon Baines Johnson as the 37th President of the United States

Anne Murray – “A Little Good News” -- 1983

 

 

"A Little Good News" was released in September 1983 from the album of the same name.  It became Anne Murray’s seventh number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

In the news in 1983:

  • Hurricane Alicia hits the Texas coast killing 21
  • Sally Ride on June 18th becomes the first American woman in space on the space shuttle Challenger
  • Vanessa Williams becomes the first African-American Miss America

Restless Heart – “Why Does it have to be Wrong or Right” -- 1987

 

 

Randy Sharp and Donny Lowery wrote the song.  It became Restless Heart’s third number one country hit.

In the news in 1987:

  • The Senate on a 58-42 vote, rejects Robert Bork as US Supreme Court Justice on October 23
  • A.Z.T. wins FDA approval for use in the treatment of AIDS
