Brooks and Dunn – “My Maria” -- 1996

 

 

This song is co-written by B.W. Stevenson and Daniel Moore.  Brooks and Dunn released a cover version of the song in March of 1996.

Merle Haggard – “Workin’ Man Blues” -- 1969

 

 

A single written by the late great Merle Haggard topping the chart at number one.

  • James Earl Ray pleaded guilty to the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King in Memphis, Tennessee and was later sentenced to 99 years in jail; Ray later repudiated that plea
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the US dies at Walter Reed General Hospital at age 78

George Jones – “Who’s Gonna fill their Shoes” -- 1985

 

 

From the album of the same name, a song written by Troy Seals and Max Barnes scoring a number three hit for George Jones.

Loretta Lynn wrote this song.  The song reached number five on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.
