Willie Nelson – “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” -- 1975

 

 

This song was written by Fred Rose.  It was originally recorded by Roy Acuff. Willie Nelson recorded the song in 1975, the song top the chart at number one in October, Nelson’s first number one.

IN THE NEWS IN 1975:

  • The city of Saigon is surrendered and remaining Americans are evacuated ending the Vietnam War on April 30th
  • Saturday Night Live premieres on NBC and is still on the air to this day

Mickey Gilley – “Room Full of Roses” -- 1974

 

 

Tim Spencer wrote this song in 1949.  Mickey Gilley recorded the song for the B Side of "She Called Me Baby." However, the song became Gilley’s first of seventeen number one hits.

Mark Springer wrote “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” and was recorded by Tanya Tucker.  The song topped the chart at number two.

David Allan Coe – “The Ride” -- 1983

 

 

Gary Gentry and J.B. Detterline Jr. wrote “The Ride,” recorded by David Allan Coe.  The song peaked at number four on the country chart.
