This song is written by Thom Schuyler and recorded by Lacy J. Dalton.  It’s the second single from the album of the same name.  The song became a top ten hit reaching number seven on the country single chart.

“Money in the Bank” is written by Bob Dipiero, John Jarrad and Mark Sanders and recorded by John Anderson.  It’s from the album ‘Solid Ground.’  It peaked at number one on the country chart.

Barbara Mandrell – “Sleeping Single in a Double Bed” -- 1978

 

 

This number one country hit is written by Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan.  It’s from the album ‘Moods.’

  • Pope Paul VI dies at age 80 on August 6th
  • Worldwide unemployment rises after several decades of near full employment

Randy Travis – “Forever and Ever, Amen” -- 1987

 

 

Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz wrote “Forever and Ever, Amen.”  It was a number one country hit for Randy Travis.  Travis won a Grammy for best Country song and an academy of country music award for Song of the Year.

IN THE NEWS IN 1987:

  • Joe Niekro, pitcher with the Minnesota Twins is ejected from the game with the California Angels after umpires find an emery board in his pocket.  He is suspended for 10 games
  • US Supreme Court rules rotary clubs must admit women
  • US Stock Market crashes on Monday October 19th with a 508-point drop

Dolly Parton – “Here You Come Again” -- 1977

 

 

This song  is a rare example of a Dolly Parton hit not written by herself.  Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil penned the song, a number one hit for five weeks on the country single chart.

  • The Minnesota Vikings lose Super Bowl IX 32 to 14 to the Oakland Raiders
