"Blue Blue Day" a 1958 single written and recorded by Don Gibson.  This song went to number one for two weeks on the Country Chart for six months.

This song was written by Stewart Harris and Jim McBride and recorded by Waylon Jennings.  "Rose in Paradise" was Jennings' twelfth number one country single.

Making news in 1987:

  • US Supreme Court rules Rotary Clubs must admit women,
  • The US Stock Market crashes on Monday, October 19, 1987 with a 508 point drop, and,
  • A gallon of gas in the US was 89 cents.

Johnny Russell - "Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer" -- 1973

 

 

Bob McDill and Wayland Holyfield wrote "Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer" and was recorded by Johnny Russell.  The song peaked at number four on Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

In the news in 1973:

  • On January 22nd, the US Supreme Court rules abortion is a US Constitutional Right with their Roe Vs. Wade decision,
  • The Watergate Hearings begin in the US Senate, and,
  • The average income per year is $12,900.

Larry Gatlin - Broken Lady" -- 1976

 

 

"Broken Lady" is written and recorded by Larry Gatlin.  The song was Gatlin's second big hit charting at number five on the Hot Country Singles Chart.  The song won him a Grammy award in 1976 for Best Country Song.

"Woman to Woman" is written by James Banks, Eddie Marion and Henderson Thigpen and recorded by Barbara Mandrell.  The song peaked at number four on the country Billboard Chart.

  • The first ever cellular mobile phone is introduced in Illinois, and,
  • Serial killer David Berkowitz -- the notorious "Son of Sam" -- is convicted of murder after terrorizing New York for 12 months.
