Ed Bruce – “My First Taste of Texas” -- 1983

 

 

Ed Bruce wrote the song with Ronnie Rogers.  The song reached number six on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

Kenny Rogers – “Love Will Turn You Around” -- 1982

 

 

Kenny Rogers co-wrote the song with Thom Schuyler, David Malloy and Even Stevens.  It is also the theme song to Rogers 1982 film ‘Six Pack.’  The song topped the chart at number one.

IN THE NEWS IN 1982:

The Judds – “Mama He’s Crazy” -- 1984

 

 

The mother-daughter duo was propelled to superstar status with this song.  It was the duo’s second single from their debut album, “Naomi and Wynonna.”  It became a number one hit.  Kenny O’Dell wrote the song.

Connie Smith – “Once a Day” -- 1964

 

 

This song peaked at number one on the country chart the week of November 28, 1964 and stayed at that position for eight weeks.  Bill Anderson wrote this smash country hit.

  • The Boston Strangler Albert DeSalvo is captured

George Strait – “Blue Clear Sky” -- 1996

 

 

Bob DiPieo, John Jarrad and Mark Sanders wrote “Blue Clear Sky” and recorded by George Strait.  This song topped the chart at number one.

  • Republican convention nominates Bob Dole and Jack Kemp
