In the news in 1970:

  • Egyptian President Nasser dies and is replaced by Anwar Sadat
  • “Midnight Cowboy” wins the Best Picture Oscar, the first and only time an X-rated movie receives the honor

Don’t look so sad, I know it’s over, but life goes on and this old world will keep on turning.

When that neon sun comes up in the evening and that warm red wine and the memories start to flow.

Statler Brothers – “The Class of 57” -- 1972

A song written by Don Reid and Harold Reid, it's a song that is a sometimes nostalgic,  sometimes bittersweet look back on a high school graduating class.  It was also a top ten hit reaching number six on the country chart.

In the news in 1972:

  • US Supreme court rules the death penalty is unconstitutional
  • American swimmer Mark Spitz wins a record seven gold medals in the Summer Olympics in Munich

Tommy’s selling used cars, Nancy’s fixing nails, Harvey runs a grocery store and Margaret doesn’t care.

A number one hit written by Dick Feller.  The single was Jerry Reed's second number one country hit.

In the news in 1973:

  • Chrysler and other car makers close a number of plants affecting 100,000 workers
  • the Sears Tower opens in Chicago

Well if you’re one of the millions who own one of them gas-drinking, piston-clinking, air polluting, smoke belching, four-wheeled buggies from Detroit City.

Kenny Rogers and Dottie West – “Every Time Two Fools Collide” -- 1978

A duet written by Jan Dyer and Jeff Tweel, the song topped the chart at number one for two weeks.

In the news in 1978:

You want things your way and I want these mines and now we don’t know just where you draw the line.
