I worked on a lengthy series for our sister station WJON for over a year called "Frozen In Time." It featured various businesses in the area that still did things the "old school" way. Check out some of my favorites below!

1. St. Cloud Train Depot--It's really neat that St. Cloud still has a train station. Obviously, there are other forms of transportation that are much more popular today. The train station is over 105 years old and is still used today! St. Cloud Mayor, Dave Kleis says it would be a good spot to put the Northstar Corridor.

2. Benton County News--It's a family owned newspaper in Foley that has been around for more than 85 years. They publish a weekly paper put together by a father and son.

3. Johnnie Bread--This delicious tradition started in the 1800s. Monks at Saint John's University used to make this special bread for the students everyday. Today, it continues to be made by students and is sold at Johnnie football games.

4. Bruno Press--Mary Bruno has been running a print shop out of her garage in St. Joseph for years. She makes holiday and festive cards using "old school" printing presses.

5. Shoe Care Plus--The shoe repair shop is located in St. Cloud. It's a family owned business that has been practicing the trade for years. Some of the machines they use dates back to the early 1900s.

6. Long Drive-In--It's one of the last few drive-in movie theaters left in the state of Minnesota. It's name comes from the fact that it's located in Long Prairie, MN. It's a family owned business open in the summer months.

7. Rice Blacksmith Saw and Machine--If you need something fixed, they can probably do it. Many of the tools used in the shop today are the original used at the turn of the century when the business originally opened. They have customers from all over the country and outside of the US.

8. Cold Spring Springers--This Cold Spring baseball team has been around since the 1920s. You can catch them playing at the Cold Spring Baseball Field during the summer months. They've won seven state tournaments--the most in Minnesota history.

9. Milk Man--You may have seen a milk truck driving around central Minnesota. It's Jim’s Home Delivery--your neighborhood milk man. Yes! That's right, St. Cloud still has it's own milk man!

10. Vals--It's definitely a throwback! Vals has been synonymous with St. Cloud since 1959. This small burger shop has been family owned and operated ever since. If you ever order a large fry at Vals, they'll be able to tell you're a rookie.

11. Pete's Place--This St. Cloud diner is a staple in the community. If you're looking for that small town experience you'll definitely want to check it out. Plus, the owner is a huge Marilyn Monroe fan--she may or may not make a few appearances around the cafe. There's even a song that was written about Pete's Place.

12. Ray's Barbershop--Remember the days where you could shoot the breeze with someone while getting a trim? Well, in St. Cloud you can. Ray's has shaves with a complimentary hot towel, military style haircuts and taper cuts. Ray is a one man band, so he only has one chair at his barbershop!

13. Al's Westside Service--This is St. Cloud's only full-service gas station still in existence. They pump your gas, check your fluid levels, tire pressure and wash your windows.

Are there any cool ones that I missed?
