I bought a house in October and have been slowly decorating it little by little. I'm not very creative when it comes to color matching and furniture placement. I am throwing a housewarming party this summer and now, I'm terrified to have people over. They will be judging me.

A new survey found that the average person has their mind made up about how you live within 26 seconds of being at your home. We're all guilty of turning into little judges when we go to someone's house. It's time to put your gavel away for a few minutes and take a look at what the most common things are that we secretly judge.

1. The smell. If your house smells like more animals live there than people, you're being judged.

2. The amount of clutter. If you have laundry baskets full of clothes sitting around, movies and games out of their cases and just general clutter, you're definitely being judged.

3. Any stains or marks on the walls. That time you nicked your wall when moving your new couch into your house, or that time you accidentally put a hole in the wall only to realize the picture you were hanging didn't look right in that spot ... you're being judged for all of it.

4. How nice the couch is. You know your favorite spot to lounge--the one where the couch stuffing isn't as fluffy anymore? You guessed it, people will judge you for it. (Buy more throw pillows!)

5. The decorations on the walls. If your walls are a combination of everything that was all the rage in the 80's, 90's and 00's you're going to be judged. Focus your design.

6. Whether the way you decorated looks modern or stylish. If you don't have a stylish bone in your body, be afraid ... be very afraid.

7. Piles of mail stacked up. If you're not opening your mail, paying your bills, or throwing away junk mail people are going to think you're; A. messy/lazy or B. you have trouble managing your personal life.

8. The arrangement of shoes. If your guests can't open your front door without pushing over a pile of mismatched shoes, you're getting judged. (If you don't ask your guests to take off their shoes, you're getting double judged.)

9. Kids toys lying around. You're going to be judged on your parenting.

10. The amount of dust. If there is a thick layer of dust on random household items like the TV, bathroom shelving, light fixtures and family photos, you're getting judged.

I think I'm a harsher judge on whether the house is clean or not. If you have crumbs on your floor or counter tops I'm definitely questioning your lifestyle. If it looks like you haven't vacuumed since World War II, I'm judging you. (But then again, I'm a neat freak.)

What do you secretly judge people for when you go to their homes?
